The welfare of refugees and asylum seekers in Sweden
Sweden is among a few countries that has been commended for a good welfare for asylum seekers when it comes to arranging accommodation and language programmes for immigrants (SFI). The asylum seekers are acccomodated in houses where they share or live single if they are families. They buy and cook their own meals and this gives a choice of what they prefer to eat.
However, they are some problems which many of thes asylum seekers and are facing particularly in being place with matches they do not have anything in common. Bearing in mind that the asylum seekers come from different countries with different cultures, norms and beliefs, it therefore makes it hard to find a the right matches for the asylum seekers.
One asylum seeker placed in Borås shares his problem with the house mates he has been placed with.
“I’m from Somalia and I have been place with a man from Ethiopia and another from Zimbabwe. The whole world knows that the problem in Somalia is a cause by Ethiopia who are being sponsored by America. Everyday they kill our people. I run away to seek safety in Sweden and now im placed with my enemy. I live, bath, eat and share most of the things with my enemy. Last month they killed my mother when I was here in Sweden and I was informed it was the Ethiopian soldiers and here I am with one of them. This a serious problem with might yield to a dangerous scenario from where I stay. For food we are satisfied with what they give us.
On the other hand, the migration authorities argue that it is hard to find the right matches for asylum seekers and they are faced with a problem of accommodation due to the increase in the number of asylum seekers coming everyday.
