Embracing Diversity in Multi-Racial Classrooms through Pedagogical Strategies
Abstract
Creating inclusive and supportive learning environments has become critical concern in today’s diverse educational environment. In response, this study has examined the complexities of multi-racial classrooms. It focused on identifying key challenges and proposing actionable pedagogical interventions for educators. The study was grounded in Critical Race Theory which provides valuable lens for understanding and addressing challenges posed by racial disparities within these diverse classroom settings. The study employed a systematic literature review following a structured five-step framework. Data were sourced from reputable academic databases, including WOS, SCOPUS, and IBSS. These databases are famous for their comprehensive collections of scholarly literature. Through a meticulous selection process, 74 relevant research articles and books published between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed. The synthesized findings were organized into emerging themes. The themes revealed that multi-racial classrooms foster collaborative learning and prepare students for real-world multicultural interactions. However, emerged challenges include cultural biases, stereotypes, and misunderstandings. Effective strategies such as collaborative teaching, reflective learning, and peer-based interactions are vital for promoting inclusivity in diverse classrooms. Additionally, group discussions on current social issues enhance intercultural understanding, turning multi-racial classrooms into dynamic spaces for engagement. To support teachers in navigating these complexities, the study advocates for the broad implementation of professional development programs focused on cultivating cultural competence and advancing inclusive pedagogical practices across educational institutions.
